Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
