Air Travel Restarts at Edinburgh Airport Following Major ATC System Failure
Passenger services have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial air traffic control outage grounded all flights.
All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped after an systems problem that was reported at approximately 08:30.
Some passengers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.
Operations Restart with Residual Impact
Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".
However, significant disruption are likely to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with numerous other services subject to postponements.
A spokesperson had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be affected.
"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the latest information on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.
Root of the Disruption
The airport attributed the operational halt to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.
Passengers continue to be advised to check the status of their flight before heading to the terminal as knock-on effects are worked through.
