Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his future following another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the team's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got significant support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to change things and secure a win of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented known failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
