Following multiple episodes of suspense, schemes and sabotage, The Celebrity Traitors has reached a nail-biting finale
Spoiler alert - This piece discloses details from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, viewers witnessed murders, betrayals, intense glares, and a memorable moment that pierced the overwhelming suspense.
However on the final evening, the final winner of the first Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
Out of nineteen participants, just a handful remained: Deceivers and loyal players facing off for the prize.
Before long, the field narrowed to just three: the remaining contestants.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a shocking result that broke the internet and left him emotional.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he declared, revealing to the other players that he'd always been a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "It's all right."
Social media quickly erupted with this development. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," commented a viewer.
"There could not have been a better conclusion," stated another, while a third called it "the TV moment of the year."
His chosen charity, Neuroblastoma UK, gets to keep the entire winnings, with the total amount reaching £87,500.
The comedian's evolution from giggle liability to strategic player was among the most memorable aspects of the season.
But his win still shocked viewers in shock, according to industry observers.
"The thought of him, of all people, pulling off an expert performance in deception felt just as probable as him maintaining composure through one of his own punchlines."
During follow-up conversations, fellow players explained why no one had truly doubted him.
"Alan could have come down to breakfast in a green cloak and I still wouldn't have thought he was deceiving us. I was too busy laughing," one participant said.
"Most people didn't vote for him because how does one eliminate a person so charming?" questioned another celebrity.
Carr said he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the program.
"I'd like to do it again... I don't think it would work a second time!"
Thursday evening's installment was lengthened to 70 minutes on the network. There was an unusual opening than usual, as all the celebs knew who'd make it at the morning gathering.
There was some very uplifting, and atypical for the show soundtrack, as the episode revisited some moments from every remaining player's experience in the game.
As ever, the comedian provided unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I started the competition a bit of an anxious mess. I've betrayed close allies to save myself, I've eliminated national treasures in plain sight. Apparently I'm a better liar and player than I believed."
Meanwhile, another contestant commented that being in the final was "way more stressful than competing with England", while another said he was "completely amazed" to have lasted this long.
Early on of the finale, several players appeared to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the castle, taking over from an earlier departed style leader.
The winner appeared at the morning meal looking like a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, before changing into a bejewelled white suit.
But he was out-jacketted by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. Impressive style.
Following this was the competition, with the final players boarding a locomotive called - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.
The challenge saw them ripping up images of eliminated players. Spare a thought for a player who managed to get hit on the head multiple times by the cover of a heavy wooden box.
Before long, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
The deceivers made a pact beforehand, vowing to stick together. "We've progressed significantly, I'm not going to throw him under a bus," stated one, while their partner just giggled.
However, one did stick to their agreement. Yet, having slipped unnoticed for most of the game, the other still got the most votes.
The last deceiver appeared to be experiencing a world of pain to be the final deceiver remaining. "Now I'm on my own, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm unpredictable, a rudderless ship."
Social media and viewers were similarly upset.
"I hoped against this contestant to be eliminated. An endearing deceiver," commented a commentator.
"Your legacy will remain in the show's legacy," posted another user.
However, there remained little opportunity to dwell on this departure. Soon, they were at the final stage - which was what we were really all here for.
The last players gathered around the ceremonial fire. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, just when it was most crucial, in a truly WTF moment.
One contestant was eliminated in dramatic fashion - following a surprising decision from their partner, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be stabbed in the back last minute like that," remarked the eliminated player. Subsequently, it was revealed that if they ever communicate, the eliminated contestant calls their former ally by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, just three players remained in the game: the final trio.
One player, appearing quite pleased, chose to conclude the game. The same decision was made by another, and everything depended on the final participant, who made the identical choice - resulting in the traitor emerged victorious.
For observers, the moment where the other players consoled the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it will be a contender for outstanding scene at television honors," they said.
Happily, the winner quickly regained composure from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate the moment.
"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, I had no poker face and now I stand the champion," he said.
He also joked about the memorable elimination - his best friend during the initial stages - by leaning toward the presenter in the concluding moments and making contact.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, scheming and the occasional surprising incidents may feel like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually all happen. And we will miss it.
