Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will return for the new Hunger Games series movie, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that beloved stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
A Major Reunion for Fans
Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their cameos will take the form of a future-set scene, considering the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
The film welcomes several accomplished actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes will appear as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the production schedule:
- Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
- Filming reportedly wrapped in November of the same year.
- The much-discussed film is targeting a November 2026 premiere.
