President Trump Invites Loved Ones of Shot Guard Personnel to the White House
Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Shooting
US army specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Community members came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to aid public safety in the capital.
Remembering the Soldier
“Sarah was the individual that educators wished for. She behaved with calm resilience, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Measures and Policy Changes
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The tragedy prompted the government to halt asylum applications and temporarily stop providing visas to owners of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Morrisey said on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she planned to meet with the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had courage,” the governor informed the crowd at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
