Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the initial candidates in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday following the squad's ten-game without a victory beginning to the Premier League campaign.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous associations to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is presently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton Town head coach - who played more than 100 of games for the club during his playing career - is considered a leading contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is said to have support from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of appointing a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham midfielder is out of work which means Wolves would not be required to pay any compensation.
