Suspected Stalker Asked: 'However Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A female indicted with harassing Kate McCann apparently recorded her a phone message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who court testimony revealed has consistently claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial indicted with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told communication data and data retrieved from phones recorded Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during the past two years.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most publicized investigations and remains unresolved.
'I Do Not Need Money'
Another voicemail, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I understand I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I feel what I believe."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail stated: "What if there is a tiny probability that I'm her? Then what? Wouldn't that be crucial for you?"
"I do not need money, I possess a living here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," she added.
The tribunal was told that via electronic messages, mobile messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a attempt to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with the police force who compiled the evidence, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally contacted family friends of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On October 9th, 2024, Gerry McCann picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "a wrong number."
During that incident Ms Wandelt left a recording on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will continue and I intend to demonstrate my claim."
The court was informed the co-defendant struck up a connection through digital means with Ms Wandelt prior to assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' property in the county in last December.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out through communication app to Mrs McCann to state the media had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be taken seriously in the months preceding the trip to that location, the county, in last December.
The court heard communications between the two defendants, in that autumn, considering attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her bins or from utensils at a eating establishment.
"We have to make a stand," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the appearance to their residence, the defendant transmitted a text which stated: "We are sat outside the McCanns' home with our vehicle dark resembling detectives. I desired to do this with another person I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
