The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The previous season concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
