The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series by Critical Role, revealed an exciting opening credits. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at several heart-wrenching personal histories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song created by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its mood is a little off.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to learn about the characters of the second series, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
