Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup Against the Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their maiden World Series since 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing 3-1, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh, leading the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 triumph in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming championship.
"I'm thrilled for our team, Toronto, our country," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an amazing experience."
Springer has now hit 23 post-season home runs, making him third in history trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another person in the world that I'd prefer in that moment other than him with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their work this season.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we ended up on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.
Toronto's team secured the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
