He remarked, "It's evident that Moscow is rushing to resume conversations as soon as it learns of cruise missiles." This statement referred to earlier comments about supplying advanced missiles to the Ukrainian military.

Political Developments and International Reactions

An ex- US state department official, a foreign policy expert, commented, "The Russian leader is trying to derail the momentum toward greater sanctions on the Kremlin." He added, "The outcome will become clear on Friday, but the chances of moving toward a truce by pressuring Moscow to get serious seem to have diminished."

This development came after the US president had recently been hardening his language toward Moscow until Thursday's call with Putin, which the Russian government described as "highly frank and trustful."

EU Energy Restrictions and Economic Effects

The European Union have set a requirement for fuel suppliers into the EU to demonstrate their fuels are not made from Russian oil, according to a official guideline published on recently. This step is included in the EU's forthcoming prohibition on imports of fuels processed from Russian petroleum, which forms part of its 18th sanctions package against Russia over its military actions in Ukraine.

Financial analysts observed that investment patterns appeared to be factoring in the potential reduction of Indian purchases of Russian oil. Some oil processors in India are getting ready to reduce Russian oil imports, with projections of a phased decrease, as reported by insiders familiar with the matter.

"This is a favorable turn for the crude oil price as it would remove a big buyer of Russian crude," said a market analyst, noting that crude values were steady on the trading day.

Military Situation and Energy Strikes

A massive Russian drone and rocket attack targeted energy infrastructure in Ukraine's eastern regions on Thursday, resulting in disruptions in multiple regions. Authorities in Ukraine reported that Russian forces launched hundreds of drones and dozens of projectiles, along with aerial munitions.

"This autumn, the Russians use every single day to attack at our power facilities," said Ukraine's president, noting that attacks impacted the areas of Chernihiv, eastern Ukraine, Poltava, Sumy and Vinnytsia.

Global Diplomatic Reactions

Kyiv's envoy to Washington, the Ukrainian ambassador, asserted that Russia demonstrated its real approach to negotiations through the "violence" of such strikes. "The Russian government yet again opted for missiles over talks, making this attack into a clear setback to ongoing diplomatic initiatives," Stefanishyna commented.

At the same time, the European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, stated that the EU had no choice but to strengthen anti-drone defences against Russian threats. Kallas announced a "roadmap" to get ready for possible conflict by 2030, including a novel anti-drone system to be completely functional by the end of 2027.

The proposed system, called the "European drone defence initiative," is projected to start operations in its first phase by the end of 2026 and be fully functioning by the end of 2027. EU authorities hopes to obtain the backing of member state representatives at a meeting in the coming days.
